Applications are invited for
the Free Online Course Explaining Visions and Opportunities of Starting a
Business. This session, University of Leeds is offering an
open online version of course, ‘Starting a Business 1: Vision and
Opportunity.’ The course aims at prospective undergraduate students both in the
UK and internationally. This course is the first in a series of six about
‘starting a business’ which teaches about a clear vision and a thorough
understanding of the opportunities available to turn that vision into a
reality. The 2-weeks course starts on September 5, 2016
DESCRIPTION: This course is provided by the
University of Leeds and FutureLearn. As one of the UK’s largest research-based
universities, the University of Leeds is a member of the prestigious Russell
Group and a centre of excellence for teaching. The aim is to create a
student experience that is second to none and as part of this, online learning
is increasingly important, even to its full-time campus-based students. The
MOOCs will allow the University to explore new and different ways to provide
online education.
FutureLearn offers a diverse
selection of courses from leading universities and cultural institutions from
around the world. These are delivered one step at a time, and are accessible on
mobile, tablet and desktop, so you can fit learning around your life. An effort
of 2hours per week for 2 weeks (totalling 4 hours) and a good knowledge of
English are required in order to be successful in this course.
This course is the first in a
series of six about ‘starting a business’. You can sign up to the other courses
in this series through the Going to University collection. A successful
business starts with a clear vision and a thorough understanding of the
opportunities available to turn that vision into a reality. Whether you have an
idea for a venture in the future or you already have a side-line business
whilst studying, this course will help you consider your vision and explore the
opportunities available. It will give you the time to plan, share your ideas
with others and start to document your thoughts in a structured business plan.

The course takes an interdisciplinary approach to environmental
management. Experts from a range of different disciplines will also
contribute to the discussion and will provide a richness and diversity to the
conversation. There will be quizzes and debates to explore the issues
further and provide an opportunity for you to share your own reflections with
Jon, our experts and other learners. Throughout the course you will join a
community of online learners, providing an opportunity for interactive learning
with other students both in the UK and internationally.

experience of business or enterprise is required, just an interest in
